Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

ipod??

My fiancée and I pretty much decided right away that we would use an ipod for music, because we didn't really think we could afford a dj.. Lately I have been thinking about the role of the dj and wondering how to really pull this off.. Do you ladies have any suggestions? Should we just get a mic and announce stuff ourselves??? Help :)

Don't annouce yourselves! lol... that is so tacky.

Ask a friend or family who is not in the wedding to do it. There has to be someone coming to your wedding that isn't bashful to speak in front of crowds.

    OR

you can ask a staff member where you are having your reception, to do it. I have seen that done before. Usually the managers are good to have because they are dressed nicely and not in the banquet hall "work attire.

Just write out the list of what they need to say and talk to them a few days before to make sure they know what to announce and what music to play.

It might not hurt to look into DJ prices. In my area, there are a few "companies" that someone runs as a side job or a money-making hobby that usually charge around $300.

Otherwise, I would ask a friend to make announcements.

We're doing our own music. We plan on having people make announcements for us and will use my laptop to do the songs. I think it is riskier to use an ipod because they don't have the ease of control that laptops do. We will make our playlists and give our "DJ" a copy with how long the songs are and when to make announcements. We have a song request page on our website so that people can tell us which songs they'd like to hear. We may also rent some light equipment for like $45 to get the DJ feel without the DJ price.
