Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Music dilemma

Hey all! Here's the dilemma Im having that I hope you can help me with:

We are having a very small wedding in July at my parents' house, with no dancing after the reception. I just wanted to use songs from an iPod or something like that. However, my mom suggested having a guitarist play before & after the reception. My fiance thought this was a great idea, as did the rest of my fam, but I think its cheesy and not at all "me".  The only catch here is that I can see the merits of having someone in charge of music where its their job, so theyre not missing out on the wedding to do the tunes.

So here's the question: should I just give in to having the guitarist so that no one else has to worry about the music?

Thanks!

You might want to consider a harpist.  To make your music truly unique and memorable a harpist can plan some special music for you and make the wedding special in a way a guitarist just can't.

<div>Don't you think you might be just the tiniest bit biased, Weddingharp?</div><div>
</div><div>OP - personally I think live music is never a bad idea, and a guitarist can be very versatile with his/her selections.  Also if it's a professional musician there is very little chance it will come off as cheesy.  But if the idea of it makes you that unhappy talk to your FI and family about your concerns, maybe there is a compromise to be found.</div>

You could get a classical guitar player. Not that guitar players are generally cheesey, but classical guitar is a little more unique and might avoid any reservations you have about a guitar player conjuring up images about some college ex playing emo :)

If you don't feel comfortable with a guitarist then don't do it.  Do you have any teenage family members or teenage guests that could be in charge of the Ipod?  Teenagers, especially boys, don't always care about the ceremony and might apprecaite the chance to work the music.

If you are not feeling it--I would suggest talking to FI and talk out other options/something that you are comfortable with.

Professional musicians are always a nice touch!
