Dj vs band

We just can't decide! We're in our early 20's so they crowd will be made up of a majority of people our age...band, or dj. Uffff. We want it to be lively and not some ol fogey band that can only play so many songs but then FMIL stated it would be tacky to have a dj...!? What! She had a dj at hers! Any input on what your all doing is appreciated, i haven't been to many weddings so I don't have much to put it up against.

Re: Dj vs band

  • I like Dj's more just because I like hearing the original artist when I hear the music, but too each their own. Don't listen to your FMIL, do what you want.
  • I think the DJ is a better option just because they can play all different genres and keep all of the guests satisfied.
  • I'm currently working on this debate. Is budget an issue for you at all?

Originally, I really wanted a band because (from experience) I know that they can definitely pick up the party (IF you get a good one)! However, after looking around a DJ is almost always going to be the more affordable route. My FI and I also started thinking that with our unique tastes in music we would be out of luck on getting to hear all of our favorite music with a band. (Although, bands will have to take breaks so you will still have some time for songs that you want and/or they can't play.)
