    iPod is the cheapest option, then DJ, then band. Budget wise, I probably could have afforded a band but I personally prefer a DJ. I like to hear the songs the way people are familiar with them, and unless you want only male-voiced songs or only female-voiced songs, you would need to find a band that has lead singers of both genders.  And of course, the savings on hiring a DJ instead of a band is huge.

    It seems like if you don't want top 40 or rap type music, you might be more likely to get the 'vibe' you want with a band... the added expense is going to be huge, but could be worth it. I'm generalizing here, but most DJ'd weddings I've been to seem to be a lot more fun for the younger crowd only, while weddings with a GOOD band draws young and old guests to the floor.

    I think you could pull off a band or a dj, either way, inform them what you are looking for (as you stated, nothing lame) and see if they are willing to work with you.
