Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Found a band, but never led a wedding before

I found a band I really like, but they have never been the front man of a wedding band before, only a drummer. He has an amazing voice, and can play any kind of music, we really like them a lot. Do you think this is a risky decision, or is it possible if we organize between one another enough that he can pull it off? Just worried about smooth transitions between ceremony and cocktail, and then reception. Hoping he understands when to start things, how to introduce things, etc. What should I talk about with him to make sure this all goes smoothly?

Do they play shows at other venues - bar/pub/etc. and have a good repertoire?

I would just make sure to give him a detailed itinerary for the afternoon/evening, with what songs to play when, a script of what you want him to say (or not say) etc.  and make sure to discuss it with him.
