Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

How many entry songs?

I'm trying to decide on the entry music for the moms/grandmas and the bridesmaids/flower girl. I will be walking in to Canon in D. My question is: do the moms/grandmas get seated to a different song than the bridesmaids walk in to?

Re: How many entry songs?

  • I've played for weddings where the bride wanted something specific for the moms & grandmas to walk in to.  But it hasn't been the norm for quite a while, at least in my experience.  Most of the time, they just walk in while I'm playing prelude music and that's my cue to wrap things up and prepare to play the wedding party entrance music next.  Makes for an easy cue for your musicians if you don't have someone reliable to signal them when to start the ceremony music.

Having said that, you could pick something really special for the moms & grandmas that can be a sort of thank-you/tribute song to them. Here are some ideas:
    Blessed - Elton John
Change the World - Eric Clapton
I Hope You Dance - Lee Ann Womack
Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

A classical piece that would work well, and go with Canon in D is To A Wild Rose by MacDowell.

    Hope that helps!
