Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Can't Pick Music

Everything else has come to me quite easily.....I am about 4 months ahead of schedule, but I can't seem to figure out what kind of music to have in the wedding. We are definatly not going traditional (music wise that is). All day today I have been working on songs. I have achieved some music to list, but most of it was already chosen (like what the girls and I will walk out to, and what Jeremy and his boys are walking out to)! I don't know what to have playing when the familys are being seated....I don't know what kind of music to play when we leave....and then we get into reception songs....I don't know what to enter to.....I don't know what to cut the cake to....I am starting to freak out. I know our wedding isn't until next summer, but I am one of those people that has to stay on top of things. Any suggestions for the above stated problems. We are doing oldies (80's), country, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra (yes I know they don't all mix, but we are going to make it cool)

Thanks in advance!!!!

Oh, and my fiance wants me to walk to the wedding march, so I am.  But my first choice would have been Dierks Bentley "long trip alone".  I'm having the mothers and grandmothers walk to Hallelujah (not sure which version) and the bm's to an instrumental version of Alicia Keys "No one".  The song we are leaving the ceremony to is an odd choice but perfect for us and it's Weezer's "Island in the Sun" but I doubt that helps you much.  I've always thought Oh Happy Day was cute for the processional. Or "I'm a believer".  Or Natalie Coles "This will be (an everlasting love)".  Sorry.  I love music:)

Not sure how much this will help everyone, but my wife and I struggled with this a lot.  We were having a very traditional wedding, but we both love fun music and just couldn't make up our mind.  Every option was on the table because my Uncle was playing the piano live and is a professional pianist and music producer.  Anyways, we landed on great songs (of which I can't remember, i'll talk with my wife and update this tomorrow) and out of that process my uncle and I decided to start a business selling music that he produced.  We've started with the classics, but along the way he's also written hundreds of posts encouraging brides (and grooms) in the music selection process.  You can read the blogs here http://www.weddingmusicproject.com/blog and you can check out our music from our home page here - http://www.weddingmusicproject.com

Hope this helps a little. The blogs should be categorized pretty well.  I'll update with the music my wife and I chose (it was a lot of work but we were really happy with it in the end).
