Need help choosing beers

I know that beer tastes can be fairly regional, so I thought I'd ask this here. How many types of beer and what types should I have for my reception? I don't drink, so I have no idea what kinds if beer to buy. Any ideas?

Re: Need help choosing beers

  • I would guess at least one light beer and some Shiner would be good...

  • We did Shiner, Miller Light, Dos Equis, and PBR (H's favorite) and it seemed to satisfy everyone.
  • We hosted wine (4 different Bota Box selections, which were great!) and 2 kegs-1 Miller Lt and 1 Shiner. Even if neither of those are someone's favorite, they'll still go for it. We ended up floating both kegs by the end of the night. Our venue gave us shells and taps to use free of charge so that we wouldn't have to pay the liquor store deposit and mess with returning them the next day, which was extremely helpful.
  • I would definitely say at least 1 light beer and 1 regular beer. We did Coors Light, Miller Light and Shiner. I would also say that Rahr is a local favorite though (I would suggest the Blonde or Texas Red).

  • Revolver is also a new brewery that opened in Granbury that's starting to pop up all over the place here. Their blood and honey beer is really good (made with blood oranges and local honey). It's a wheat beer, and I would reccomend if you have  a lot of people who are fans of beers like Blue Moon.

Like others have said, Shiner+a light beer are also great go-to options here in Texas.
  • The vendor we used for alcohol had a package of 2 beers and 2 wines. So we had miller light, bud light, chardonnay & merlot.  We also had Champagne
  • If you have enough guests who drink beer, a keg of local beer such as Rahr, Deep Ellum or Peticolas would be fun. Two sizes of kegs are sold. The smaller kegs have about 70 beers. Plus, guys feel manly pumping the keg and the beer tastes better because it is fresher.
