Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

DJ Pricing...average?!

So the DJ finally got back to me on prices. He wants $50 for the ceremony and $100 per hour with a minimum of 4 hours. Is this average for a basic DJ? He's not doing lighting or anything special since it's an outdoor wedding. I wasn't expecting this much, so I'm wondering what you guys are/have paid.

I would post this on your local board, as prices vary by region. For instance, in central IL, we are paying $700 for the whole reception, but many quoted us up to $1500 for this same service.

We are paying $600 for 5 hours and $50/hour for any additional time.  This includes a $100 referral discount since our venue sent us to the DJ.  I'm from the Saint Louis area so prices might vary in North Carolina but it sounds like you're getting a fair price.

You might check bridal fairs and see if your DJ has a booth set up at any of them.  I've been to a few of these fairs and it seems like the booths usually give out discounts at these fairs.  Maybe you can find a bargain!

We paid $585 for 6 hours plus ceremony.  Any extras we would have to pay for.

We are soo lucky.  Are good friends do it as a business and are charging us 200 bucks for 7 hours!  however, before they offered, we were looking at about 600 bucks for 6 hours and that's not including the ceremony.  so expensive!

that seems like a great price! We are paying 1095 ceremony starts at 4:30 and he will provided all the music for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, a total of 6 hours. He is young and building his business but came highly reccomened from a few people I know. The more established local dj's were on  average $1500.

We are paying $750 for 6 1/2 hours (ceremony and reception) but that also includes some lights.  Really, it will depend on your area.  The average DJ price in southeast MI is about $1,000 - $1,200 I would say.  I would assume that would be different in NC though.
