Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

karaoke...?

My mom and future in-laws are half taking over planning my wedding....  For the most part, I'm ok with it- if i had my way completely I would elope.  However, they have decided since the reception site is small, karaoke might be a fun alternative to a normal DJ and dancing.  I can't make up my mind how to feel about it- Any suggestions?

Maybe for late in the evening....

Do you have a singing crowd?  My friends and family are, and are giant hams, so they would like it after all the wedding "stuff" is done.  If it's not that kind of crowd...it could be awkward.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

The last wedding I went to had kareoke and it was awful. Most people don't sing well to begin with. Even less sing well after a night long open bar. Plus you can't really monitor what songs people sing. Going from hard rock to a sappy love song isn't fun to listen to. And nobody was dancing.

We are having Karaoke at our wedding. We will be having a DJ monitor it though, so there will be dancing and karaoke. The DJ will space out the karoke songs so that we can dance to a few, then enjoy some karaoke, then dance some more, etc. We probably wont start the karaoke until later in the night.

We ended up deciding against it, after discussing the fact that my fiance's family is much more conservative, and my family would take over.  Thanks for the input!
