Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Must ceremony music be live?

So we are thinking for the ceremony we're going to keep it mostly instrumental/classical/traditional.  Is it worth hiring a band (one of my college professsors plays in one that does weddings) or is it ok to play recorded music?

I think it's totally fine to have recorded music for the ceremony. As long as you have a sound technician that knows how to mix sound, so the guests can hear it well (not too loud, or fuzzy, etc.). And of course someone to control the MP3 player (or whatever you've got) so the right stuff plays at the right moment. Don't want a mishap like that! :)

Like anything, there are no straightforward answers! So much depends on your preference and budget. Do you want an "elegant" feel? Then you'll definitely have to hire live classical musicians. If, on the other hand, you want something more folksy or pop-related, you might be ok with recorded music.

Just remember, live musicians make a HUGE difference, if you want to make your wedding more memorable and personal.
