Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

DJ vs. iPod Wedding??

Hey y'all.. I'm really concerned about which route to go. A DJ seems sooo much easier because that will take care of 'the flow' of the wedding... If I went with an iPod wedding who would direct everything? (Like "Now it's time to cut the cake") I just don't want my guests to feel lost or anything.. Ladies who have done an iPod wedding:Tell me about your experience? Same with Dj Ladies. Thanks!

  • Well, when you have a DJ, they act as MC or master/mistress of ceremonies, which introduces everything at the reception and controls the music. You could just as easily ask someone to control the IPod in this way, but make sure it is NOT one of your guests! This is an all night long job and is not meant for someone invited to share your day. DJs are usually more expensive, since you are paying for the music selection they have, set up and breakdown of their equipment, and their abilities to get people dancing and keep them on the dance floor. One of the things I knew we needed was a DJ that was attuned to our taste in music we enjoy a large range. You need to decide what is best for you and your FH. Good luck!

  • We are doing an iPod wedding, but only because there won't be any stops and starts.  The ceremony will be music-free (courthouse) and there won't be any "events" at the reception that will need cued up (like a cake-cutting, garter toss, etc.), just 4 hours of continuous music.

But you're having a different kind of wedding, so I suggest going the DJ route unless you absolutely cannot fit it in your budget.  It will give you peace of mind, and as casswhiting pointed out, you're going to have to hire someone to work the iPod anyway -- you CANNOT ask a guest to do this, it's super rude.

Yeah.. since our wedding is at the park i'm also nervous we might get a noise complaint with a dj or something...  If we do a iPod i'm sure we can get one of our guest who really don't want to be there to help with the ipod. I would just set up several huge playlists and they could just hit play for each one..

I just worry about a noise complaint with a dj or something since it will be in a park... I wouldn't hire anyone.. i'd probably just ask my sister to do it since i'd set up huge playlists. They would only need to be cued up...

<div>We got a friend who is a guest to do it, not only because he's a stand up comic but he asked if he could help bartend (we have the event staff covering that) because he feels awkward having to be social to our families lol</div>
