Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Outdoor wedding music

I am thinking about live music for the ceremony.  I know a violinist, and some brass musicians.  And will probably do a soloist.  What kind of music is good for outdoors  do I need a mic, sound system, etc?

Re: Outdoor wedding music

  • Depends on what you mean by outdoors, really, and how big your wedding is.  In a big open field, you'll probably want a sound system of some sort.  If there are buildings around to bounce sound off of, you probably wouldn't need it for instumentals.  Vocal soloists would probably need a sound system no matter what if you're outdoors, though.  It'll also make a difference if there are 50 guests or 500.  Brass and woodwind will probably carry better without a sound system than strings, just generally.
  • Its in town, but on a large lawn with a mansion and barn nearby.  There will be 150 guests.
  • Brass musicians will not need a PA system.  You would need to ask your vocalist wether he/she believes they will need a mic. as that varies from person to person.  Also, your violinist should be able to provide you with feedback as well.
