Cold sore

So if you all saw my post earlier- you probably know I have something strange on my lips. I've never had a cold sore in my life, but after looking it up- it looks like it may be cold sore after all. FI has one in the exact same place as me right now too.

What is the best way to take care of it? It hurts and it feels dry and chapped (normal??). Do I put chapstick on it or vaseline or what should I do?

TIA!!

That link has some good information. Apply ice, eat high lysine foods (meats, cheese, milk, yogurt etc.) avoid arginine foods like nuts, seeds, grains and chocolate. Avoid acidic foods, eat fresh fruit and vegetables that assist the immune system. Garlic, onion, chili, ginger, seeds, beans and vegetable oils are good.

There are some remedies on the site that you might find helpful.

  • Abreva.  Works wonders.
  • I second the Abreva. I usually put some carmex over it because it can make my lip feel a little dry.
  • I actually get them kinda often...make sure you apply the chapstick with a q-tip or clean finger and then wash your hands really well after touching it :) I pretty much have a tube of stuff the I only use when I have a cold sore.

Abreva is worth the money. I always just go to the lip section in the pharmacy and they have other things there that help with the itchness and soreness.

I personally have never had one (KNOCK ON WOOD), so i'm no help.
But ... hopefully it doesn't last long so your not having to worry about it at the wedding!

  • If you can get someone to write you a prescription for Zovirax...it is Abreva on steroids and clears it right up after a day.  I get stress and sunlight induced cold sores and that stuff works wonders!

  • I was going to say abreva or zovirax like kimc mentioned. I don't want to scare you but don't wait and see what happens, just get the medicine. If it is a cold sore it will be much better if you treat it immediately and will only get worse the longer you wait.
