I just got a call back from a band that I love and pretty much would LOVE to have at my reception.  The total cost is 2,000.00 which seems reasonable to me, but still kinda wondering.  I have heard this band perform several times, and love their work.  My MOH is the best saying it is what I want since I am paying for it.  My mom wants to go route of DJ.  Any opinions?

If you like the band, you are paying for it, and it's in your budget, I say go for it!

Get the band you want, if it is in your budget.  Different things mean more for different people.  For me a band is very important, it is the entertainment for an evening.  If your family and friends like to dance, having someone who will get them on their feet and keep them involved can make or break your reception.  For this reason we chose to spend almost 4,000 on a band, I made sacrifices elsewhere (for example floral budget, not important to me and I don't think people really remember that).

My dad pointed out something very smart to me one day.  We are having a full open bar from cocktail hour through the last song and I really wanted to go from the basic package to premium upgrade.  My dad was against it and asked me to remember what TYPE of alcohol was served at each wedding I've been to recently, and I couldn't tell you one.  He then asked about the quality of the bands and djs and I remembered those very well.  When you are planning your wedding, think about other weddings you've been to and what you actually remember from them...awesome entertainment, delicious food, etc... those are the areas to splurge a little in my opinion.

We are paying 2200 for our band. Some bands around here are 7000 and up. We got a really good deal, not to mention that the male lead vocalist was on American Idol and made it just shy of the Top 24.
