Hallelujah

Hi!

My fiance and I are having a pianist and a guitarist, and I think I'd like to walk down the aisle to Hallelujah (by Leonard Cohen/Jeff Buckley/Rufus Wainwright.)  The music is gorgeous and I love the song.  However, the lyrics are definitely not wedding appropriate.  We're not having anyone sing the lyrics so it will just be instrumental, so I don't think the lyrics really matter that much.  Thoughts?

Also, I don't really want to change songs during the processional, I would like for our wedding party and for myself to walk to the same song.  Is that a bad idea?

    If the song is long enough, I don't think it will be an issue to use just the one. I'm always one to say forget about whether the lyrics are appropriate if you're using an instrumental, but in this case, I wouldn't. I LOVE that song (esp. Jeff Buckley's version) but to me it would be way to sad to use for a wedding ceremony.

    Just one stranger's opinion, take it for what it's worth. Let us know what you decide!

    I love, love, love Hallelujah.  Having said that, I wouldn't use it during the ceremony.  It just doesn't say "joyous moment" to me.  Sorry.

    With the lyrics, it's inappropriate.  Without the lyrics, it's just REALLY repetitive.  I mean, at least Canon in D has some variation.  I'd look for something else.

    Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
