Is $2,400 expensive for the " most advanced" DJ package they offer?

Hello all-

We meet with a DJ (the owner of the small company) in the Chicago-land area right before Christmas. We really liked him and had a great connection. Also, he does about 8-10 events at our location a year...which is great because he was able to give us tips.

He has 2 packages; 1 basic ($1,400) and 1 advanced ($2,400) . We would go with the advanced package which includes a top of the line system, with lights, and multiple speakers for our large room.

Most websites don't show how much the packages cost so I am at a loss about where this price stands. Any thoughts would be awesome!

I think it really depends on how well you like him and his personality! Have you seen his work?

Since you still have awhile to go, ask to see him at an event (most DJ's allow this) so that you can get a feel for how he interacts, etc.

If you still love him, then go for it!

I think this is also something that depends on where you live. I would imagine DJ services in Chicago would be more expensive than other parts of the country. We only paid $650 for a our DJ in central Ohio for 6 hours. And that included him bringing his own lights, speakers, etc.

Thanks ladies! We did really like him. He did a "mock" wedding for about 10min in his studio for us and it was great. We have read about 30 reviews on him and there wasn't one bad one. I guess you get what you pay for! I just feel guilty spending that much money. Thanks again! I think we will go with him, from what we talked about today (hopefully the last discussion since we always go back to the same one!) Smile

I'm not sure how much DJs cost in Chicago but for me that would be completely undoable (I'm looking at $600-$700 max).  If that is too much I'd see if he could take something out or take off some.  I saw a DJ today that wanted $2,000 for their starter package and it really wasn't all that much different than the $600 ones I've spoken with except they did a personalized monogram lighted on the dance floor.... big deal.  I would suggest calling a few others who have good reviews and email them to see what their prices are like.

yes and take the time to type up an email to get a quote. I can not tell you how much ive saved through my wedding planning by giving the vendor I want someone elses price. (My sister and I both got free bars for our receptions through doing this!)

I live in the DC area and am paying $2,000 for our DJ.  He is doing our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.  This includes all his equipment, etc.  He did my brother's wedding and did a phenomenal job!  If you felt comfortable with him, do it.  Peace of mind is worth so much on your big day!

I live in South Dakota and the DJ we picked charges $2,300 for a package that includes music and lighting as well. If you really like him, go for it! The DJ is what keeps the party going!
