I have to pick songs for dance of decades but i don't know what that is anybody?

Why are you trying to pick music for an event when you don't even know what the event is? You don't have to do something just because you've heard someone mention it.

My first guess is that it's what most people I know call an Anniversary Dance. All married couples are asked to come out to the dance floor. The DJ then asks everyone that's been married less than a day to sit down. Less than one year, sit down. Less than five years... you get the picture. Eventually, only the couple that's been married the longest is still on the dance floor. I like Anne Murray's "Could I Have This Dance?" for that event.
