Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

No dancing reception music suggestions???

We are having an 11:30am ceremony/reception and don't plan to have dancing. Any suggestions for music? Should we have a DJ or a band? I want people to have fun and listen to good music. I would love to pick our own music (ipod) but i'm worried that something will go wrong!

I think a band would make people dance more than a DJ, unless it's a string quartet or something. A DJ can play a variety of neutral "dinner music" that entertains, but doesn't whisk people onto the dance floor (or the makeshift one those determined folk will find lol).

I'd go with a dj - if you're not going to try to get people up and dancing it seems a little wasteful to sink all that money into a band.  (Its been my experience that djs are more affordable.)

Also djs can make announcements - like when its time to be seated, when its time for the announcements into the room, first dance, toasts, cake cutting, etc.  Bands can do this too, of course.

I find that romantic standards from the 50s and 60s work well for background dinner music, but that's just my opinion.  Find a dj you like and talk it over with them, I bet they'll have lots of ideas for you!
