Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Lots of music Q's. Help!

If you are doing your own music what kind of speaker are you using?  We have a large back yard and are having the reception at our home.  We are still in the planning stages but I would expect at least 50 people.  I have a Bose ipod speaker and I wonder if that would be loud enough?  I guess we could rent some sort of speakers/microphone for not too much money.

I am at a loss for what songs to play for the ceremony.  My style is more romantic/classic.  I'm thinking tradional songs or classic songs like Otis Redding type stuff.

Any one care to share their playlists of songs for the ceremony and reception?

Re: Lots of music Q's. Help!

  • We're doing our own music for the reception--our venue comes with an iPod hookup, so speakers aren't an issue for us, and we're Catholic, so ceremony music is all sacred.

As far as reception music goes, we're trying to do a healthy mix of "crowd pleasers" along with our favorite songs.  I've been to weddings that were overloaded on "songs everyone knows", and I've been to weddings where it seemed like the bride and groom were just trying to show off just how indie and obscure their music tastes were.

I'd recommend a few different playlists to set the tone.  We're doing a cocktail hour playlist (think Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Michael Buble, etc.), a dance playlist (Shout, Cupid Shuffle, a few slow songs), and an "after-my-grandparents leave" dance playlist (anything with bad language that I might want to hear, plus a few that are only fun after you've had a few)
