Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Band or DJ??

Hi,

I need help.  We are really torn on whether or not we want a DJ or a band at our reception.  We are both HUGE music critics (maybe even snobs) and while we love music from almost every era we do not want anything cheesy and we also no what we definitely DON'T want (top 40, rap, country, etc.).  At first, i was pretty gungho on getting a band but now i'm wondering if that will just be over the top and annoying.  we aren't too concerned with the fiscal difference but any general advice???  i've only been to a handful of weddings but every single one of them has had a DJ (and they've also been the type of weddings where the latest kanye song is blaring half way through and the bride is in the middle of the floor break dancing).

Again, we LOVE music and won't have nearly enough time to hear every song we love but we are not huge dancers (no rap, no country)... we obviously want people to have fun (guest list up to 306) and to dance but just don't want any colored lights or lame crap that is something we will be rolling our eyes at.  i just want it to be a social event with good music, dancing for those who want to but nothing where everyone feels pressured to be out there...  any guidance is appreciated :)

NO OFFENSE TO KANYE-DIRTY-DANCING-LOVING BRIDES ... i envy you.

thanks so much- kelli

We are having a band play at our reception. I love live music and that was important to me. The DJs around us were annoying and cheesy.....at least the ones that we met. When we found our band it just clicked and there wasn't any hesitation.

Support the live arts. You won't be disappointed if you do your homework and hire the right band.
