Hotel Issues

I blocked rooms at a hotel months ago. Recently, the reservations manager left and when my SIL went to book her room, there was no room block. Now that it's so late, they were only able to give me half the rooms that are stated in my contract because it was not already set up. ugh! Now they are telling me guests have to book 1 month prior to the wedding (when the contract states the day before), and they are now telling me there will be a fee for use of the shuttle after 10pm, when contract does not have any stipulations. Have any of you had problems like this?? Is it possible to cancel my contract with them, since they are not honoring it as it's written? I am looking to at least add another block at a close by hotel, if not move over there altogether, since only 2 rooms have been booked thus far.  Thoughts?

If you have a contract, you win.  Scan it and email that to them.

If it's not in the contract, unfortunately, you have to find another way.  Do you have ANY written communication about the shuttle?

    That's a bummer.

Do you still have your contract? That will probably clear some stuff up... mine had the number of rooms being held and the reservation deadline.

If you do move, make sure the people who booked can cancel without penalty.

Agreed. Your contract could be your best friend. If you want to move the wedding then it will also tell you what it will take, but breach of contract is huge. They may honor it if you can prove it.

Tam, I just went through this two weeks ago. I'd gotten all my people to book at a particular hotel who made me a bunch of promises -- all of which they ended up breaking. Including taking my wedding guests to the church in the shuttle, staying to a certain time to pick up my guests, and giving us a meeting room to get dressed in. I'd made it clear I wanted to "book" or "schedule" all these things, so I thought they were written in stone. But a new person came in last week and said not only were those things never written/scheduled for me, but they're outside of their policies and can't do any of them.

I'd asked several different contacts to confirm their policies over the last year, but there was never a written contract, so I was completely out of luck. It's awful, and I ended up spending 2k to rent a shuttle for the weekend for the guests that I promised a shuttle for. I hope it doesn't come to this for you.

Both hotels I blocked have also made mistakes with who booked under our room rate. I get different answers to questions every time I call - even just about simple things, like how many people booked under my room rate (when it should not be changing).

It took me two days, but I've come to peace with it all. It's disappointing, but I have made alternate arrangements that are more reliable anyway.

If you have a written contract, you have much more power & negotiating ability than I did. I definitely would've tried to argue with them if I'd had something in writing. Good luck!

I do have a written contract. The part about the shuttle just said it's complimentary, but does not have any time stipulations. They are now saying that I have to pay after a certain time. Also, they said they can't give me all the rooms I want because they are already booked (for 2 months from now).

Update: hotel contact says i have 5 rooms left out of 20 on my block. Yet the room block was not even set up last week when my sister called to book her room (the other problem I had, I've had this contract since JANUARY) Yet I'm supposed to believe 15 rooms have been booked since then?? My invitations barely went out today! *STRESS*

On the plus side, i have another hotel as backup in case this one cannot come through.

I had problems with the hotels telling me how many rooms were booked. One of my hotels told me that 5 rooms in my block were booked only weeks after I sent out my invitations. When I called a bit later, they said no rooms were booked at all.

When I called to ask for the rooming list of all the people who'd booked under my block, during the same phone conversation I was told that all 10 rooms had been booked. Then, when I was transferred to someone who could tell me their names, that person told me that actually no rooms had been booked.

I was so confused, and told him so. He said the other person must've misread something. You might ask for the list of the names of the people who have booked so far ... that would be more accurate.
