Canon D short version

Hi,
I am getting married in a very small chapel, but we want to play Canon D for my march down the aisle. Does anyone have a short Canon D? I haven't found anything on iTunes. Thanks!

find someone who knows how to play it, and can record a shorter version.  There are a couple different versions out there depending on instrument, etc. Its a pretty simple song that a lot of people learn.

Since it IS a cannon and is repetative, you CAN create a shorter version with a little creativity =)

I can play a piano version of it....but i'm not sure how good the quality of a recording would end up if I did it. lol

If you have live musicians then it's easy, there are various places that it can be stopped and sound fine.  But it does need to be >30 seconds - I would use it for the whole bridal party plus yourself to walk down so it doesn't sound so funny.

if it is just for you, have you considered fading it down when you're at the front...and then using the rest of the song as very quiet background music?

I played a version of the Pachabel's Canon on piano that I arranged for a 30 second walk down the aisle. Unfortunately I can't find the music, and it's not on iTunes of course, but if you're using live musicians (or know any) they might be able to record or figure something out. I only played the slow canon on its own for a measure or so if I remember, moved on to a more complicated version of the canon that comes later in the piece for another couple of measures, then played the faster theme and slowed it down to end part way through on an upnote. It's kind of hard to describe here without humming or showing sheet music, but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't just a few slow repetitive notes for the majority of the walk and that it sounded complete and not just like it got cut off short. It worked out really well, and I got a lot of compliments on it afterwards.

thank you all for your posts. Yeah  i knew i had heard a short version before at a wedding. unfortunately the person who was going to play cello for us is going to be out of the country...so i'm having to find a recording instead.
thanks meep2, that is exactly what i have in mind, because i dont want to walk in to a slow measure, and then have the crescendo start when i'm already to the front. i'll try to figure something out. Thanks!

Any skilled musician can make the long version short. All they have to do is end early. If you consult with your ensemble, I'm sure they can help you.
