walk down the aisle song

My fiance and I have a "song" (With or Without You by U2) but its not really a romantic song, and not a good song to dance to for our first dance. I was thinking of having a string quartet play it (no singing) while I walk down the aisle.
Do you think I should walk to something more traditional? I'm afraid I'd regret not walking down to "here comes the bride", but I'd love for that song to be incorporated.
Opinions? :)

Hard for someone like me to answer that because I hate "Here comes the bride."  To me, if it has some meaning towards you and the FI, it cancels out not being a romantic song.  I think the song itself though has a pretty melody and would be great for such an occasion.

    Sure, sounds nice.

I have never actually heard the Here Comes the Bride (aka Wagner's Wedding March) at a real wedding. It is listed in my parents' wedding program and others in the '80s.  These days I only ever hear it dubbed over on wedding shows.

I think the next song to become overused and obsolete as a wedding processional is Pachelbel's Canon in D.

I wouldn't worry about wanting to do something more traditional - the act of having a string quartet play your song makes it formal.  If it's the song you like then use it.

naomi:  I have to say that as a church organist, the song I'm asked to play the most at weddings is the Wedding March from Lohengrin (aka:  here comes the bride).  I'm always surprised at music consultations when they ask for that.  I have a host of alternate options, but far more often than not, it's what the bride and/or groom want!
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

I used the traditional "Bridal Chorus" (Here Comes the Bride) and traditional recessional "Wedding March" for the recessional.  I thought about going with a more modern song, but these classic numbers just felt right.

You could have your bridesmaids walk in to the U2 song - that way you incorporate both.

The string quartet version is exactly what I had in mind!
Turns out my church won't allow it to be played during that part of the ceremony, but I'm going to use it for when the bridesmaid walk in.
    Thanks for your help :)
