Wedding Ceremony & Reception Music Discussions

Need help with Reception Music (specifically WP entrance and mother/son and brother/sister)

I need some help with the music for our reception AND I would love to hear what other brides are doing :) We really want to use music that isn't over done at weddings.

Hi I need a song for our wedding party to enter the reception to. My FI and I are entering to "Lean Me Right" by Mumford and Son's with Birdy... the version of "Not w/ Haste" for Disney's Brave.

My FI and I are really into country/bluegrass/folk music. We are having a live band and they are willing to learn a few songs but we want to stick with this genre because it's what they can do well.

Any ideas???

The other music for the for the reception is

First Dance;  When God Made You (Natalie Grant & Newsong)... this will be played from an iPod

Father Daughter: Then They Do (Trace Adkins)

Mother Son: probably you raise me up (Celtic women version) but they haven't really decided, they can't find anything they are really happy with... suggestions???

Brother Sister (my brother and I are really close so I want to have a dance dedicated to him where we can dance together but not kick everyone off the dance floor): You've got a Friend in Me (toy story). I feel like this is a little cheesy so if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them!

Bouquet Toss: Redneck Women (Gretchen Wilson)... I'm the first of my friends to get married and most of my friends are excited about the Bouquet toss.

Garter Toss: James Bond Theme

Last Dance: Home (Philip Philips)

  • I think "You've Got A Friend In Me" is a great song to dedicate to and dance with your brother.  Not at all cheesy and definitely not overdone at weddings.  Go for it.

First off, I love your father/daughter song! I forgot about that song and just might have to add it to my list :)

Second, for a brother sister dance, I actually think toy story is cute, but if you are looking for something slower, I've always been a fan of "My Wish" from Rascal Flatts

  • As for folk/bluegrass music...I LOVE Nickel Creek as a group and Chris Thile as an individual artist as well. But...not sure if any of their music would quite work for a wedding...depends. There are some great upbeat instrumentals like "Ode to a Butterfly," "Cuckoo's Nest" or "Bridal Veil Falls."

I really love your Brother/Sister, Garter Toss and Last Dance song choices!!
