DJ or Live Band? Tipping?

I'm torn between a GREAT live band that is pushing at the seams of the wedding budget and a DJ that allows us to save quite a bit of $.  Then I was told that in addition to paying for entertainment; DJ or Band, I need to tip.  Is this correct?
