I'm trying to figure out how much time to allot for photos before the ceremony.  How much time does it usually take to do the Getting Ready, First Look, Family/Bridal Party and Detail photos?  We will be doing our Bride and Groom photos at 6pm, after our reception ends, so we won't have to worry about fitting those in beforehand.  Thanks!

Re: Photography

  • I just did my timeline to include photos, and for our 3pm ceremony, we are starting at 11am with details, getting ready, etc. First look is at 1pm, and some pre-ceremony shots up until about 2:15.

I'm not so good with the advice... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

  • We started at 2 for my 5 pm wedding.

  • Our photography started at 4 four our 7 wedding. I personally felt a little rushed, and we only did wedding party pics before hand, we didn't get family pics. That said, there was a little bit of travel that took some time in there as well!
  • We allotted 30 minutes for first look, and an hour for family photos.  We took another half hour for B&G photos after the ceremony (including a couple of pictures with our officiants).  My photographer shot about an hour and a half of details/getting ready (I had only alloted an hour but she came early).  So my timeline was this:

    3:00 - Photographer arrives
    4:00 - Bride gets dressed
    4:30 - First look
    5:00 - Wedding party photos
6:00 - Wedding party retires to respective rooms to wait until ceremony
    7:00 - Ceremony
    7:30 - B&G photos

Your photographer can also help you with this.
