July 2012 Weddings

old traditions

Both my grandmothers have talked to me about regulating alcohol. Its driving me insane! I feel like saying BACK OFF if i want people to drink and enjoy themselves SO BE IT!

I gotta assume its a generation thing. Im not looking for it to be a frat party but I dont see any harm with being tipsy.

Re: old traditions

  • Are you having an open bar? Your guests are adults, and you need to let them take care of themselves. I have never heard of regulating alcohol intake at a wedding. I have definitely gotten way more than tipsy at lots of weddings I have been to, but so far, no grandma alcohol policers have gotten me, haha!
  • It's totally a generational thing.

My mom couldn't BELIEVE we weren't going to do actual favors (we're doing edible ones and charity donations). By the way she responded, you would think we weren't going to serve food. Seriously.

  • When I told my Grandma that we weren't doing a traditional guest book, she gave me this funny look like she thought I was crazy and super modern and unconventional. We're doing a glass jar and leaving slips of cardstock out for our guests to write us notes on instead. She also totally didn't get the point of the crosswords we made. Definitely a generational thing.

My grandma is not around but I work with enough elderly woman to know that's a generation thing.  They have their own views on how a wedding is suppose to happen from the first date until the wedding night, they don't change with the times..  ha-ha!!

No open bar. No alcohol. Just beer wine champagne. Yes i know people get drunk regarless! Im not a babysitter and I have already gave our wedding planner a list of names of people who can get a bit out of hand.

I dont dare tell my family the theme of our wedding either. I wouldnt hear the end of it. We are doing baseball since we are both hardcore fans. Baseballs in the centerpieces, our favor is a custom made trading card, etc etc. Its been hard to not give any details but i could hear it now... "you dont want to have a baseball wedding, thats not a wedding, make sure your making the right choice"

  • From grandma:
Just remember the more you get the more they will drink.

Me: Im not worried about the more people drink. Its supposed to be a celebration.

My aunt (gmas daughter):A celebration doesn't have to mean over indulging. If someone gets hurt your responsible.

Me: a celebration means i shouldn't have to babysit adults who should take care of themselves. My friends are not rowdy therefore I am not worried about personal injury.

Is it just me or do you think they have a certain perception of me? I feel like they think I am a 21yr old who parties hard all the time non stop and my friends are a bunch of hooligans!? 1. I have 2 children 6 and 1 when exactly am I going to be out at a bar?
