Convinced that the universe is trying to ruin my wedding (humor and sarcaism duely welcomed)

Hello Hello my marchers.  I always tend to look towards the humerous and when I booked my hall 1 yr ago I told hubbie that my day was not going to be safe.  Flash forward to the ongoing list of poo that is ruining my day...lol.  The worst part is that these all happened within the last few weeks.

Exhibit A;  My cousin and his finance decided they were having their wedding 3 weeks after my reception.  NBD, I was upset, but now I am over it.  Flash forward to a family gathering and some of my relatives were saying that I was being selfish having a reception.  They felt I already "had my day" in march and having another one is "childish and lame".  They felt that I needed to postpone or give up my day to allow my family the right to not choose between me or my cousin.  Honestly this caused the most stress because now there is a discord within my family over it.  I never "had my day" and ended up going to civil court and had a court house wedding.  No white dress, no big party to celebrate.  Now that was the original plan when hubbie got engaged in 2010.  We wanted to get married for the protection that marriage entails, but wanted to save up for the big day.  Hence, having the reception 3 yrs later, 1 yr after we got hitched.  Everyone was fine with this plan until my cousin got engaged, and now people feel i need to move over.  So I have family telling me they are forced to choose, and that my cousin and I should have planned it better....*sigh*

Exhibit B: I brought my dress and put it in my closet.  My closet is a sliding door closet and I guess my cats learned how to open it because the dress and the bag have nice holes and claw marks in it....

Exhibit C: My husband did a REALLY stupid thing when he was a soph in HS.  He basically took a $100 bribe to ride down a hill on a little girls bicycle.  Well the bike didnt have sufficient breaks and he ended up breaking his front tooth, his other front tooth popped out, and broke his wrist.  If we had cellphones and youtube I am sure this would have been played a million times over.  Well they fixed his one tooth and the one that popped out was placed back in.  He was told the one they put back in would eventually need an implant because the body would reject it and push it out.  Well, that started to happen 2 months ago.  So he had surgery to remove the tooth and set the "stuff up" for his tooth, he has a flipper that he has to wear till the implant is ready.  When will the implant be ready?  O in 6 months.  Yep, either he will be post op or wearing a flipper for our wedding reception.

I know, I know, it could be worse.  But man, it's fun sitting back and wondering what will happen next.

  • I'm sorry your family isn't being supportive. Unfortunately that is one of the downfalls of doing a renewal so soon after getting married. Personally, if I were a close family member or friend, I'd still attend and be supportive, and it sucks they don't feel the same way.

Totally understand about the cats. Mine know how to open my sliding closet door and occasionally I find them in there. I now have shirts crumpled on the floor thanks to them pulling them down, and a few with some small holes because of them. They also put some nice holes in our shower curtain liner from playing in there. The bathroom door is shut all the time now because of that, plus one of them loves to shred up TP and paper towels, and they like to get into the cabinets where we have cleaning supplies I wouldn't want them to get in to. Our lower kitchen cabinets have child locks on them because of this!

That also sucks about his tooth! Can they postpone it until afterwards or try doing it a little earlier so he's not in pain? I've had a lot of things done on my mouth and I couldn't imagine doing a procedure like that like the week before my wedding unless it was some sort of emergency.

It sucks because none of them were there when we got married, and everyone was fine with our original plan.  It just seems like now that there is another wedding three weeks later, I need to "step aside" like my reception is a birthday party I can just change on whim.

They also put some nice holes in our shower curtain liner from playing in there.
Mine do the same.  I am always changing my liner once ever few months.  How are they when they get their hands on Q-Tips?  Its worse than catnip for mine.

Unfortunatly they can't.  The problem is that the type of implant they are putting in needs 6 months to fuse to the bone.  Since he had the initial operation tuesday (remove the original tooth, put in the bone graft), it will take about 4-6 months for the bone graft to fuse with the tooth.  Since it is his front tooth, it will take much longer for the graft to fuse.  So the doctors are saying 5.5 months.  The poor thing now has a hole in the front of his mouth and has to wear a "fake" tooth (flipper) untill the bone grafts.  The issue is that since 5.5-6 months from now is the reception, he will either be wearing the flipper or will be 1-2 weeks post op.  This option was much better than his tooth actually falling out sometime in the next 6 months and us having to deal with this later down the road.  The tooth was coming out soon all the dr's we took him to said it.

I know these are 'minimal', but man, they really do creep up on you.

Actually I don't think they've gotten into the q-tips. One of them likes to find my unopened tampons though and play with them! He likes the plastic part (thank God he doesn't like the other part because he's pulled the plastic parts out of the trash! We now have a trash can with a lid in there even though the door is shut all the time). It's hilarious but also annoying when you grab one and realize there are teeth marks in it.. haha. This one also loves those little plastic bottle caps that come on water bottles. He was playing with one of those for like an hour yesterday!

  • Why does your family have to chose between you and your cousin if they aren't on the same day?

Oh, cats!  Aren't they something?!  I have an 11 yo cat that stays out of everything and is good as gold.  Then there's the 2 yo that we SHOULD have named Dennis the Mennis!  My kids may have been the original reason I put child locks on everything, but the 2 yo cat is the reason they many never come off!  His most recent antics involve DVDs.  If anybody even touches a dvd or cd or it's CASE (yep, he's smart!), he runs to the nearest computer or dvd player and trots back and forth from the person holding it to where he figures it's going to get shoved.  Then when you put it in, he full body tackles the dvd player or computer trying to get it back!  He does it with Wii and Xbox games, too.

I do hope you will forgive me that I really did LOL at your description of your husband's accident!  It sounds like the messes my two older brothers and all the neighborhood kids would get into!  There was a similar dare in our gang that ended up with a boy at the bottom of a hill with a wrecked, pink girl's bike and a broken arm.  I do hope this doesn't affect your pictures, though.  If it does, it sounds to me like you will take it in stride with your good sense of humor and laid back attitude. :)

  • Julie, your cat kinda reminds me of our troublemaker, Asher! HE is the reason for our childproof cabinets! But the DVD thing reminded me of what he does with the Xbox. Every time we turn it on he runs over to it and just stares at it. Sometimes he climbs on top of it. If we open/close the tray, he tries to catch it. It's funny but I'm afraid one of these days he's going to break it! The other cat, Midnight, is a total angel compared to Asher :-)

Frisky does that, too! It's a hoot to watch, but you just know the dvd player or game system is going to bite the dust someday! Frisky seems to notice our schedules more than any other pet we've ever had. I have a habit of getting up about 30 minutes before the kids do. I grab a cup of coffee and turn on the tv. Each morning, he meets me in the kitchen to grab coffee. While I'm pouring it, he runs to the coffee table to sit with his back to the room and stares at the tv until I turn it on. And when I tuck the kids in at night, he's right there, all over the bed, meowing and rubbing around on them, like he's tucking them in, too. I guess he's worth it in entertainment value alone to have to put up with childproof locks an extra decade or so! LOL
