Texas-Dallas and Ft. Worth

Intro!!

Hey all you DFW knotties!

I have asked a question about DJ references on here before but never fully got to know any of you or introduced myself! My name is Marilyse and my fiance's name is Dason. We have two dogs, Penny and Smokey (our children) and i'm doing my undergrad at TCU and he's finishing up his grad school at A&M.

We're getting married June 16, 2013 at Beltower Chapel and Garden, having a vintage garden party theme. Our colors are purple, green, and white. Just hired our photographer, working on deposit for caterer, and soon talking to all those DJ's you referenced us too! We've been together for almost 6 years (yes, high school sweethearts) and are looking forward to many many more.

I can't wait to meet all of you and get to know all of you! Just from the one post I can tell that y'all are a great group of gals and I can't wait to hear from y'all! Sooo, I think that's all but if you have any questions about details and such PLEASE feel free to ask! I love talking about wedding plans! Hope to hear from all of you soon!

    Stephie,

My dress that I is magic number 8, Maggie Sotterro Miri. And my engagement ring was originally my grandmothers who he secretly met with to get. It's a beautiful single stone diamond in a white gold setting!
  • Hi Marilyse! My name is Erica. I also have a dog named Penny! :) What kind are your two?
    Anniversary
  • Erica,

Lol, well, I call them the "DFW breed". They are both rescues: Smokey will be 2 July 31st and we rescued him when he was 4 weeks old from an AWFUL family in White Settlement. Penny we literally picked up off the street E. Lancaster and we guess she is a little over a year (around Jan. 20 was her 1 yr). If I could figure out how to upload pics to my account I would def show you! I wanted them to be my flower girl/ring bearer but Belltower doesn't allow it! To give you a general idea, Smokey looks like a combo between a black lab, terrier, and schnauzer, and Penny looks like a Great Afghan terrier mix. They look so similar you would NEVER know they weren't biologically related!

    Stephie,

Thank you so much! How did you upload your super sweet picture to where it appears with your posts??
  • Well the picture is uploaded to my signature but it was so long ago I don't remember how to do it!
  • Hi and welcome! I'm Kylie and my DH and I got married this past October. The ladies here are fabulous and full of great advice! For your siggy pic, there's a sticky at the top of the page that has the instructions included in it...check that out!
  • It's the FAQ: Read this first sticky that has the I instructions !
  • Welcome! My name is Kim and my wedding date is June 14, 2013. Just 2 whole days before yours. I'm hoping to book my venue this Saturday so I will at least have something done. I would have sooner but I had to wait 14 months out for this venue.Keep us all posted on the planning.

  • Welcome to the board! You are SO on the ball. I'm super jealous, as I'm having a 7 month engagement, and I constantly feel behind!
  • Kylie,

Thank you SO much for the tips on the siggy! Now just to find a semi-decent pic of us to upload! We'll be doing engagement pics fairly soon so as soon as we get those i'll upload them to my profile.

    Adyran,

I could not believe he called my grandma, drove to Houston (from fort worth), and picked up the ring, CORRECTLY RESIZED IT (omg!!), and proposed. It just makes everything that much more special.

    Kim,

How exciting that you're just 2 days before me!! And how long ago did you get engaged?? We set the record at our venue for booking it so far in advance but we wanted to make sure since it's in June that we got it first. I will def keep everyone posted on how planning goes!

    Cwaggoner,

Haha! Thanks for the awesome complement! Since we've been together for almost 6 years, by the time he actually proposed, I had 2 accordian folders organized and full of ideas! I hope all goes well for you and your planning!

Sorry for the super long post but I wanted to respond to everybody since y'all are all just as wonderful as I had hoped!! Hopefully, will get a pic up soon! We'll see!

This just tugs right at my heartstrings.  H and I had family heirloom rings resized for our wedding bands.  His is his grandfather's, mine is my great grandmother's.

  • OMG that just made me almost cry!! How sweet is that! I think that is so special..if we had either of our grandfathers rings, I think that would be a wonderful idea. I'm so glad he got this ring from her and even with her permission to take the stone and change the setting, he realized how "me" the ring is.
  • My center stone is my DH's grandmother's also--over 100 years old.  His mother had been saving it unbeknownst to my DH.  When he told his parents he was proposing, they gave him the antique ring.  He ended up just taking the stone out and resetting it in a modern setting.  Still--it's not something you'll ever find in a store.  They don't even cut stones like this anymore.  So I can relate to how special it is.
  • How is yours cut, if you don't mind my asking?? I agree they don't cut them anymore! I took my ring to Kubes to get appraised for insurance purposes and they said mine was a  "short fat diamond".  Btw, how often to DFW knotties do a gtg?? I really want to attend one if there is one in the making!
  • I can't see anyone else's posts thanks to the knot but I did want to welcome you! We love to talk about wedding plans too so you are a much welcome part of the group :) Enjoy!

Mine is considered a "mine cut" or "European cut" which is really just a fancy way to say it was cut by hand a really long time ago before they had machines.  But one thing they are known for in that era is what we would call "fire" or "sparkle" now--the different colors that it sets off when light reflects off of it. You have to cut deeper into the diamond to achieve this effect--often sacrificing size which is why no one does it like this anymore.  Most girls would rather have a bigger diamond than a fiery one.
