March 2013 Weddings

Winter or Spring Wedding?

Hi Everyone,

We are planning a March wedding. We like the date 3/23/13 because it coinsides with our 10yr anniversary of being together. My main question is for nothern states (we live in Boston, he's from Minneapolis and I'm from Ontario) would this be considered a winter or a spring wedding?

What do you think?
Thanks!

Re: Winter or Spring Wedding?

  • Well it's technically spring at that point, so that's what I consider it. However, in MN we can get snow well into April so that's something to be prepared for if you're having the wedding up this way. So I guess it could go either way. Why do you ask?

  • I guess I'm asking because I don't want it to be weird if I do daisys and grass for a center peice. Its going to be an indoor wedding anyways so I'm not really worried about the weather but I would guess that a winter wedding has a different tone than a spring wedding.

  • Congratulations! I'm getting married the same day actually and having the same problem! I would loove to have an outside ceremony with a spring theme but don't know about the weather, it's so unpredictable that time of year. Good luck with everything and as far as your question goes, it's not weird if YOU like it, it's YOUR wedding an no one elses, do what makes you happy. :)
  • I would consider that spring as well. I don't see a problem with your decorations at all! That why we chose March, we wanted a spring wedding. Congrats!
  • I'd consider it a Spring wedding as well. According to the calendar, March 20, 2013 is the first day of Spring. Not that that matters as far as how the weather is going to act!  I'm in Texas, and last Spring we got snow covered blooms very late winter/early spring.  So I agree, do what YOU like!!  Everyone will probably be ready to see all the beautiful Spring colors anyway.  I know I will!
  • That's our date, too.  Because I hate winter ... I consider it a spring date, for sure!! I think I have decided, though, to put the girls in long dresses in case of cold weather -- but that just makes it more formal, to me, not more winter!  I don't think you can go wrong, either way.  I feel like people will be sick of winter so would very much welcome a spring-centered wedding....but at the same time would think nothing of a "winter" wedding ... Just stick with whichever you decide!
  • I was just hunting for this exact topic!

We are getting married March 16--still winter technically--in New Jersey. This past year it was in the high 70s in March.

Whenever I look at season-themed ideas, none of them fit. The only winter I see is Christmas-y or icicles. All of the spring themes are flowers busting out everywhere--where I live, it's likely that all the blooms will still be frozen underground.

That said, I chose Windsor/slate blue and sunny yellow as our colors. The blue seemed more wintery, while the yellow reminds me of forsythias in spring.

I think we will definitely be ordering some his/her galoshes in case of snow or rain!
