March 2013 Weddings

Tell everyone about your wedding & what all have y'all done? :)

So I'm wondering since we are all March brides what you have in mind (or planned) for your wedding.

Our theme is a "Big Fat Irish Wedding" we will have a traditional Irish ceremony

Our wedding will be in Las Vegas on March 24, 2013.  We are having the ceremony at a really pretty golf resort outside of town.  It has magnificient views of the mountains and isn't really "Vegasy" at all.  (Paiute Resort for those interested).  We are having to do very little decorating since the venue is so beautiful to begin with which is good since its 2000 miles away!

We will then have our reception at Nine Fine Irishmen Pub at the New York New York Hotel.  We just want to have fun and it was easy, they even have a live Irish band playing at night so we saved costs with DJ's and that sort of thing.

For our rehersal dinner/meet & greet we are having it at the Rainforest Cafe, there are quite a few kiddos in the group and I figure they will enjoy it and if they enjoy it then so will their parents! haha

After dinner we are going on a private Double Decker bus tour around Las Vegas.  We will have an Elvis impersonator as our tour guide (fun!)

So here is what all I have accomplished so far:
Venue booked
Reception site booked
Rehersal dinner/meet & greet booked
Bus tour booked
pictures booked
dress picked out/deposit put down
jewelry ordered
shoes/shoe clips ordered
welcome bag ordered
some "goodies" for welcome bag ordered/received
Cake deposit paid

Still to do:
Grooms clothes
Honeymoon plans (can't get rates till May for March 13)
Flights
Rental car
Transportation for guests
Limo for photo tour
The rest of the welcome bags
Bridal party attire
Guests rooms to be booked
Invitations

Those are all the big ones I think. Of course there are a million little things to think of but I'll get to them.

I'd love to hear everyone else's plans, it is so fun to see how different weddings can be. I feel like I've accomplished so much already, but I guess I'm lucky - - I'm OCD when it comes to having things organized.  I'll really start to fret when it comes down to the wire I'm sure.

So I'd love to hear everyone elses plans.

Wow... thats quite a bit accomplished with still a year to go!   So far ... I've got the DJ, Photographer & ceremony / reception hall booked...both will be in the same place for convenience, as who knows what March weather will be in Northeast Ohio!  I got the STD cards I ordered in the mail today (early, I know but had a great deal from zazzle.com)  Not mailing them out until mid summer though.  I am having a vintage vegas theme wedding.... nothing really traditional at all!  I'm going with a Red DiVinci gown ( style 8220) and my colors are black & white with candy apple red & silver as accent colors.  We're having a red carpet, instead of a white aisle runner, My chair covers & tablecloths will be black, with white napkins and silver chargers on the tables ~  tons of votive candles & amber uplighting to create a "candle lit ambiance" and make the room feel & look like a lounge instead of a wedding hall.... We're also making a casino at the reception... we're renting a poker table, blackjack table, routette table, and a few slot machines for guests to play.  My fiance's dad sings / plays piano so he'll be playing your standard sinatra / rat pack music during cocktail hour, and my friend who is a jazz trumpetist / composer is going to play trumpet voluntary for me as I  walk down my "red carpet".  He looks a lot like elvis... my fiance wants him to dress as elvis but having him dress up I think is a bit over board! The guys are wearing black pinstriped suits, and to jazz it up a bit we're placing black & / or white fedorahs on the chairseats for the gentlemen, and using black & / or white feathered boas as chair sashes for the ladies to use. We're using framed 5 x 7 size playing cards as our table #'s to tie in a bit of the casino theme as well.   I'm over ambitious with ideas, but they're slowly starting to come together... its so fun to watch it all come to life ~ it really is a dream come true!

Oh, both your weddings sound fun! And I think you've both accomplished way more than me.. haha.

    Done:
Reception booked - it is at an event center in Minneapolis. I first heard of it on my local board and I haven't seen a single bad review! The space is gorgeous and it has the exact atmosphere I want - a fun, modern PARTY! Haha.

Wedding party picked - We are only having 3 on each side. We chose our siblings (I have a sister, he has a brother), his two best friends (he's known them literally forever, haha), my sorority little sister, and FI's BFF's FI (ha) who I've become good friends with. Haven't decided if we're having a FG and RB but we know who they will be if we do.

DJ "booked" - Our DJ is a friend of ours. I've seen/heard him DJ on the radio, at local bars, and at MANY sorority formals :-) I say we "booked" it because there's no deposit or contract yet, but I trust that we are on his calendar!

Bartender "booked" - Similar situation, he's a good friend so no contract or anything. He said he'd do it for free, so we will be giving him a very generous tip :-)

Colors sorta picked - I keep changing my mind but I think I've finally settled on aqua and white with hints of silver and maybe a little green (ugh, see, I can't decide!).

I think that's it at the moment.. gonna start looking at dresses and stuff again soon! I've looked but I haven't decided on anything yet. Hoping that will be my next big check. Either that or our photographer. I contacted a girl I went to HS with and her prices look pretty good and I LOVE her photos. Just need to talk it over and get some responses from a few more people!

WOWZA! You certainly have accomplished a lot! lol Well we are doing a Rustic/Elegant Texas wedding at Huntsville State Park in Huntsville, Texas! The reception site is right next to the ceremony site. We plan to have our ceremony right next to the lake outside. Our colors are bright cheery Spring colors. Theyare Aqua, Hot Pink, and Black. We are both Catholic so that is the religion style we are going with and a Bishop is actually marrying us. He was the priest who baptized DF and has since moved up the chain! lol He was actually trained by the Pope! (Makes me so nervous! lol)

    So far:
    Made my veil
    Purchased Unity Candle
Ordered custom jewelry for the bridal party
    Booked Honeymoon
Purchased items for our center pieces
Drew up the menu and assigned dishes to family

    Haven't done yet...
A HELL of a lot! lol

Since I'm planning from 2000 miles away, and I truly hate to be stressed out, I've got quite alot done.

    So Far:
    Ceremony and Reception venue booked
    DJ/uplighting has been booked
    Photographer, booked.
    Hair and Makeup Artists, booked.
I've bought my dress, and FI is buying his 5 piece suit next week.
My centerpieces are ready, and by ready, I mean ready to be transported 2000 miles back east, haha.
The bouquets and bouts are a work in progress, but they are for the most part, done.

    Left to do:
Book honeymoon, only because its too early to book flights.
Block off rooms at a few local hotels.
    Print STDs and Invitations
Pick up some more venue decor, I've been buying things here and there.
    Book an officiant.
We've already "selected" our bridal party, but we haven't asked them yet.

I'm sure there's more I've forgotten as I pretty much always have multiple projects going on simulataneously.

Sounds like you've all been pretty busy as well!

We are planning our wedding from about 2.5 hours away (no comparison to 2000 miles) but FI and I have very different schedules, so we have had to be very productive with our time. We are having a traditional, classic wedding with some modern touches.

    - Photographer
    - DJ
    - Engagement pictures scheduled
    - My dress ordered
    - My shoes/veil
    - Bridal party selected (it's early but we have known our friends for years)

    Next items on the agenda:
    - Videographer
    - Photo Booth
    - Bridesmaid dresses
    - Flowers
