Cost of Wedding photography

I'm trying to figure out a range of what is considered normal for wedding photography. Just so I know what to expect when I start looking at photographers. That way I have some criteria of figuring out how much to budget for photography.

This probably depends a lot on your region. I was looking to spend around $1000-1200 because we had a fairly low budget. But I contacted all the photographers in my area that didn't post their prices on their websites. So I got a wide range. I think the quotes went as high as $4800. In my opinion, that's a ridiculous amount of money. In my area, I think you could do very well between $1200-2500.

Ditto PP - it really varies region to region plus factors like hours covered, number of photogs, and number of prints, albums, ect. For my area most photography packages start around $1500 and range to $4000. HTH

I am a wedding photographer in Southern California. My collections begin at $1000. Some photographers here have their collections starting at $5700 and go as big as $21,000. As everyone has said, it varies depending on your region.

It also depends on what you want and who you want. As photographers, it's hard now a days because it's not just about the photographs anymore, but the experience we give you on your day. The photographs are just the cherry on top. For us, it's about making the brides look and feel beautiful not only in their photos, but throughout their big day!

Two things to take into consideration are: location and what you want in your package.

My website is currently down as I'm 'reconstructing', but you can find out more about me and my photography on my blog. ;)

    Best of luck!

If you're in the wealthier parts of CT or nearer NYC, you can expect that you may find a couple of capable photographers with packages starting at ~$2k and established professional will probably all be north of $3k.

I found it to be about $2,000.00 average. Anyways, I made a blog about weddings with tips and DOS and DON'TS for future brides. I guess I just can't get enough of this wedding stuff. You should check it out, because I just wrote about Photography.

If you're still looking, my fiance is a wedding photographer & his prices range from $1200-$1800 for the standard packages. He also loves to travel for weddings too. Feel free to view his work @ http://jadongood.com & http://jadongood.wordpress.com

My photographer is young..she graduated last May and has done about 13 weddings so far (7 when we booked her) and will have done 30 by the time our wedding rolls around next summer.  For 10 hours of coverage, an engagement session, all of our images and copyrights, etc.  We are paying $850...a steal, I know!  I posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a photographer that could meet my requests for under $1200 (tight budget)...and I received about 65 responses in 3 or 4 days...some were bogus, some were random people who had no backround in photography, but there were at least a good 10 or so that we considered...our photographer had the best pictures in our opinion, and was the most reasonably priced.  She's since raised her rates, but my advice is, if you're on a tight budget, to look at college students with experience or recent grads...because we got an awesome deal, and she's a great photographer!
