Only one photographer?

I've heard that you're supposed to have like 1 photographer for every 100 guests. I'm having 250 invited guests so I figured 2 photographers would work well. I spoke with another photographer who said that 100 guest rule was pretty true and that anyone saying otherwise was lying.

well.... I found this AMAZING photographer who claims that he's good with large groups by himself. The guy is uber excited about his work and he loves the area that I grew up in and says what I described to him sounds like a once in a life time experience to shoot so he even adjusted the cost of his package to fit within my means.

Does this sound too good to be true? How many people did you have at your wedding and how many photographers?

It depends on what you expect to have captured.  We had 2 shoot at our wedding of 40 guests, and 2 shoot at our local reception of 400 guests.  Both did a really nice job.  You can't expect a solo photographer to capture as many moments as 2 of them, but a good photographer catches all of the primary moments anyway (ceremony, dances, etc).

I would ask him to see 2 or 3 full shoots (not the highlights, but the full body of work) from weddings with over 100 guests.  That will give you a good sense as to whether he covers enough to meet your expectations.

The point of the second photographer is not to 'upstage having one photographer' but to get alternate views....its hard to get a close up of the brides glow walking down the aisle and a wide angle asle shot with all the guests and venue in it at the same time..with two photographers you can do it...also two photographers will have slightly different takes on what compromises a good photograph...so one might me more tuned into details...or candids...or formal portraits, or whatever..using the strengths of 2 photographers allows you (the customer) to get a more 'holisistic' approach to your wedding. One photographer who is really good can get some great shots...but there will undoubtedly be some 'misses shots' for the sole reason 1 photograher can not be in 2 moments at once. We are having 2, but 2 that always work together and know eachothers styles really well (they are a husband wife team), this i think is ideal.
