Whats a reasonable cost for a photograper?

I am having around 150 people at my wedding in October.  The photographer will probably be needed for 8 10 hours.  The photographer I met with said his cost would be about $2300 for his services, including a photo book.

Is this reasonable? expensive?

Not sure......

That sounds reasonable. Although the cost of a photographer can vary based on several factors: region, experience & package contents. Pro photographers can range anywhere from $2000 to $10,000, dependent on these factors.
For Chicago, this seems to be reasonable, espcially if you are getting an album.

If the  Chicago board is active, I would try there for a local recommendation and also to get an idea of what the average cost is in that area.

It's definitely reasonable-- not as much as I spent, but we are going with a smaller package. It all depends on what is going to be included in the package, how many hours, prints, do you get rights to all the digital files, etc.

I'd say, if you like the photog's portfolio and think he/she will give you the service you're looking for then yes, it is reasonable. Good quiality work comes at a price. Unfortunately, I have seen some ports out there with similar prices who I thought were definately  not worth the asking price and actually looked quite unprofessional.
Shop around, look at other portfolios, compare, maybe you'll find a better service at a lower or higher price.
