Reception photography length of time?

Is it pretty standard to have the photographer only through the formalities at the reception (bouquet toss, cake cutting, dances) or did you have them for longer?

Re: Reception photography length of time?

  • This would really just depend on your preference and your budget. If you can afford to hire a photographer for the whole day, I would to ensure full coverage of your day. Most people that only hire a photographer through the formalities only do so because of budget constraints.
  • I had mine from getting ready until the very end, so I had them 8+ hours.  That is how it is normally done in my area since most people still do a "grand exit" where I live (we also did a private last dance)--but yes, some people just have them stay through the formalities and then they leave before the reception is over.
  • You have your photographer for how long or how short you like. If you have an understanding of how your dayy goes, then see what the timeline will look like. Maybe you will not need over 8 hours especially if it's a smaller wedding.
