What's a reasonable price for an album?

The prices I'm getting for albums seem high, but none of the album printing services online post any pricing info so I can't figure out if what I'm being quoted through photographers is just another big wedding markup or close to what it would cost me to get an album printed elsewhere. (I've been quoted $600 for the 'budget' option through a high of about $1500.)

Re: What's a reasonable price for an album?

  • They are very expensive--the high-end ones are even expensive for the photographers so once you add their markup on, it can really get up there.  Ours came with our package so I'm not sure what the true cost was.

Just FYI, I made a professional quality album for my husband's parents for $400 using my DVD images.  I have a review with pics in my married bio.  Just throwing it out there as an option.  I loved how it came out and it looked almost exactly like the one we got from our photographer.
  • One photographer quoted about $300 for a 50-page album, and said there was no mark-up.
  • My album is going to be $225. my parents one is $175.  $600 seems high, but i guess it all depends.

  • Albums come in variety. The genuine leather and premium leather alone with high quality flush mount pages cost a lot for a photographer at cost. Remember that photographers have to spend hours designing the album, plus integrating 50+ pictures in the album so all that time and expense is added to the price of them not being able to book another job (portraits, events etc) while needing to work on albums and other products for clients. There are leather albums that are not as high a quality, with the flush mount pages not being as high a quality, which at cost is a few hundred. They're still great albums, so see if your photographer offers a range and variety of albums and not just one type of album at a set amount.
