average cost for engagement photos??

A friend of my FI is a photographer and he said the would love to do our engagement photos. He is charging $150/hour to shoot at one location in one outfit, and does not include any prints. How much do photographers usually charge for engagement photos?

That sounds about right.  Mine were part of my package but most photographers charge around $300 for a 1-2 hour session with photo changes so he's charging you for just a standard one-hour session.  But he's not cutting you a deal or anything.  And not getting prints is fine as long as you get a DVD of your images.  Most photographers in our area don't include prints anymore.
