Photographer using a lighting assistant????

just curious.....a photographer i spoke with uses a lighting assistant. Someone walks around the venue with a tall pole light is attached. He stated it helps make the pictures more natural instead of flash.  Is anyone else familiar with this technique?  Could it be do to the type of camera he uses?  Thank you for any info you can offer.

Some photographers do use lighting, at a wedding, I've not seen it done but it will definitely help your photographs.  Especially if there is a lot of glare and whatnot.

Our main photographer did this and our photos came out really great. I know the thought of someone walking around like that seems kind of odd, but if this is the norm for how they shoot they will be really unobtrusive during your day. We ended up with shots that I had no idea they were even trying to capture!

It could likely be the Lowel iLight he uses.  Or similiar.  The iLight is used by at least 3 of the top 10 wedding photographers on the planet, namely Yervant, Jerry Ghionis, and Martin Schembri.  The iLight is a continuous light that adds a beautiful warm glow to a subject.  It doesn't matter which camera you use(as long as you don't use flash in conjunction with the iLight)

I have one of these, and I keep it mounted on a  monopod.  It's a video light, made to set up on top of a professional video camera. It's GREAT for photography, especially weddings.  I don't think I would ever use it during the ceremony, but it's great for most other phases of wedding photography.

If the photographer in question here is using one, or something similar, he probably knows what he's doing.
