Hello all!

Is there a typical amount of time before your wedding date to get engagement photos done? When do you typically submit the announcement to the newpapers?

If you are wanting to use your photos for STD's then you will want to allow enough time to get your images back, design the STD's, mail them, etc.

We didn't use ours for STDs, so we got ours done in May--because that is really the last month you can do them outside where I live.  That was 6 months before our wedding in November.  If you don't need them for STD's, then there is no hard and fast rule, just think about weather, the season (do you want to be wearing sweaters and jeans with fall leaves, or a cute summer dress, etc.).  It's really a preference.

This is a question that I also have. I got engaged a few months ago, but am not getting married until July 2012, so I wonder if you are supposed to get "engagement pictures" near the time you are engaged, or if they are just more for getting to know your wedding photographer, therefore closer to your wedding date.

Well, we got engaged this past April and are getting married November 11, 2011.   We're getting married in MA and my parents threw us an Engagement party this past October.  While we were home we decided to have our Engagement Photos taken.  It was wonderful timing because they were taken around the same time of year that we will be getting married.  I'm not sure if there's a set time frame that you have to, or should get them done in, but a year out from your wedding might be nice.  Good luck!
