Photography on a budget

I am sure this question has been asked many times, but I am looking for a good photographer in Houston, Texas on a budget. We have no more than$900 to spend for the photographer. I am willing to cut the hours to 5 or 6 for coverage. Any knotties have information out there? Help! My wedding's in Houston 5 months! I am planning it from Maryland.

Yikes - 5 months out is cutting it really close, and $900 in Houston won't you get a professional for 5 or 6 hours unfortunately. I'd start hunting on Craigslist FAST for a newer photographer who will have lower rates.

Maybe try posting on the local texas board.  But if you look really hard you should find someone close to that budget. I just booked mine today for $1300.  If you find someone who has just started out but that is good you might be able to find them for that price.  I know up here in nj the prices i was seeing were like 2000 and up. i just lucked out. good luck!

I live in The Woodlands (outside of Houston) and recently got married.  We used Blissphotos. They have been doing photography for a while and recently started doing weddings.  They are very reasonable and Lauren and Chris are wonderful to work with.  Their price is $125.00 per hour and unless they changed you get all the photos they take (which for me was about 500).  This should keep you under your budget.  Check out their website www.blissphotos.net

It depends what you want in terms of deliverables. For $900 you might be able to find an experienced photographer who will give you a few hours of coverage and your images on a disc. Perhaps they might throw in one or two enlargements. Chances are you won't be getting an album or anything else for that price.  Check references carefully, read every word of your contract before signing, and remember, the old adage – “you gets what yous pays for”.  Good luck!  P.S.  I am a successful full-time videographer in the DC area and after hundreds of events; I feel I am qualified to offer this advice.
