Ivory bridal dress and white shirt tux?

Hi ladies,

I am needing advise.  I am wearing ivory dress that is more towards a hint of gold.  My fiance picked out a white shirt for his tux.  I am hearing from other girls that when the bride wears ivory, fiance should do the same as if a guy wears white shrit, ivory dress looks dingy in pictures.  Is this true?  Anybody experince this?

  • I'm FAIRLY certain my H wore white and my dress was allover ivory lace.  It was definitely not an issue.

You could, also, explain this to your FI and have him switch.  It's never a problem with tux shops to make little changes like that.

  • It doesn't matter.  I used a mix of ivory and white in my wedding and it never even occurred to me to think about it.  I'm not a fan of ivory shirts though anyway.
  • I would think that the ivory shirt would look dingy.. but I would never thing your dress would!

  • The lady at the tux place told me this too, but to me the "ivory" tux shirts that they had just looked so yellow. So, I went home and held a stark white dress shirt up to my dress just to see. I didn't think it made my dress look dingy at all, it just made it stand out more.

However, I think the "ivory" dress shirt might not look bad with your dress since you said it's more of a goldish tint. You could always buy one of their ivory dress shirts to bring it home and compare, then return it (if you really can't decide).

  • You could do a white shirt with an ivory vest. But, I would go with a white shirt whatever you do. I've seen the ivory shirts on wedding parties and I don't think they look as good.
  • I think the white shirt with the ivory dress is great.  Honestly, it adds some dimension to me and it looks more interesting together -- not in a bad way. The ivory at the tux stores for the vests and shirtys definitely looks "yellowy" where typically, an ivory wedding dress, doesn't look yellowy at all.

  • When we set up our tux rental they said that if I am wearing an Ivory dress that it looks better to have Ivory shirts for the guys.  I didnt think it mattered either way but my FI went with ivory just to be sure.
  • I prefer to have my colors match, but that's just me.  I'm wearing a light gold dress, with an ivory overlay and my fiance will be wearing a candlelight-colored shirt.  This being said, I don't really think anyone is going to look at your dress and his shirt and be like "THEY DON'T MATCH!".  If it's important to you, then I would mention it to your fiance.  If not, I honestly don't think anyone is going to notice.
  • Ok good deal. Thanks ladies. I will stick with the original plan. Men's warehouse ivory shirts were too yellow so that is a definite no go.
