Weird question about engagement session

So long story short, I live in Northern California. I would like to take engagement photos at Disneyland, which is about 350 miles South of where I'm located.

How does this work?
Do I hire a local photographer and then pay their way to Disneyland + their hotel and transportation ON TOP OF their typical fee?
Or do I hire a photographer that is local to Southern California?

Is it even common to have a photographer essentially travel with you to some destination for a photo session? Am I being weird? lol.

Thanks!

Re: Weird question about engagement session

  • I would personally hire a photographer who lives and works near Disneyland. That's what we did. We got our e-photos taken where we live now, which is a few hours away from where we got married. We found a photographer down here who we hired just for the e-shoot and found a separate wedding photographer.

However, I know wedding photogs sometimes include an e-shoot with their wedding package. I might look for a local photographer you might be interested in for your wedding also and see what their travel fees are. I remember looking at this info for our wedding photographer--they required payment for travel, hotel room, plus an additional fee (on top of photo fees) per day that they were on location. It ended up being very pricey to have them travel somewhere.

  • If you can afford your wedding photographers travel costs then do that.  Its better to do your engagement session with the photographer at your wedding.  It gives them a chance to get to know you better as a couple and that way you are more comfortable with them at the wedding. And yes you do pay for all of that.  I am flying in a photographer that lives in Seattle, WA and I am getting married in IL, but I love their pictures and its worth it to me.

But if you want to get a photographer close to Disneyland talk to the wedding photographer from the day (if your package includes an engagement session) and see if they will change that to an extra hour of coverage or a day after session.
  • Disneyland probably doesn't allow professional (paid) photo shoots in the park without their permission. Check with Disney before you shell out too much money or time.

Agreed...I would strongly advise that you have your wedding photographer do your engagement shoot.  Treat it like a trial run for the wedding...we booked our wedding photographer, did engagement photos...and hated them.  We ended up terminating the contract and just booked a new photographer, barely two months before our wedding.  It was not a fun experience, but I am very glad that we did the e-photos.  If the e-photos had been my wedding photos, I would have been devastated.

</div><div>No worries. Disney DOES allow professional engagement photo shoots inside both Disneyland and DCA so long as it's just the couple, the photographer, and a camera. No tripods, lights, backdrops, etc. allowed and NO interference with other guests' enjoyment of the park (i.e. you cannot ask people to move out of your shot). </div><div>
</div><div>FI and I are having our e-photos taken at Disneyland at the end of the month. Our photographer is based out of Hollywood but is originally from Northern California and does lots of traveling back and forth. He just shot my friends' e-photos here in San Diego and is shooting their wedding in NorCal in April. I do not know what arrangements they have made with him re: travel costs. His name is Gavin Farrington. <a href="http://www.gavinfarrington.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.gavinfarrington.com/</a></div><div>
