Too soon?

I'm getting married in 2015 and wondering if too soon to call the photography company we want to use and get something confirmed. I know its far away but we want to start paying for things now to save money as it gets closer. We know the phorographer and DJ we want to use adn don't know if its too soon.

and thoughts????

Re: Too soon?

  • It is never too soon. If you have someone in mind why take a chance losing the chance to work with that professional.
  • Hi Kay,

Congratulations on your engagement! If you already have your heart set on a photographer my advice is to contact them now. Although, your wedding may seem a ways away good photographers book up quickly especially after the holidays when the majority of proposals take place.

A few reasons why you may want to contact them now.

    1. Many photographers raise their prices on an annual basis. This might be a good opportunity to lock in their current rates.

    2. Booking early also gives you one less thing to stress about. If you lock in your DJ and Photographer now you can cross that off your checklist.

    3. And as I mentioned before this insures that you have the photographer of your dreams.

Just a word of caution. Most photographers will ask for a retainer to secure your wedding date. The difference between a retainer and a deposit  is that a retainer is NON-Refundable and a deposit is. Since your wedding is still two years away you may want to interview a few photographers to get a feel of their personality and style before you commit.

Photography is such an important part of your day and even though you may love a photographer's work you may find you're not on the same page  after meeting him/her in person. Key things to look for are 1. Personality: do they make you feel comfortable? 2. professionalism: do they respond to your emails and phone calls in a timely manner? 3. Do other brides recommend them?

I hope this helps a little.

    Best Wishes,
    Brooke
  • I second brooke. I booked my venue and photographer almost 2 years beforehand because they are really popular. Out of all the vendors in the wedding, the one thing that shouldn't be skimped on is the photography. You will have these after the wedding to remind you of your wedding so they should be fabulous!
  • I personally hate the idea of paying someone so far in advance. I would rather open a new savings account and set aside money on a regular basis for the wedding. What if the photographer files bankruptcy or goes out of business? And you can't be sure of the date unless you have booked the venue. I understand booking early to make sure you get the vendor you want but two years in advance seems too far unless that is common in your area and/or this is an extremely popular photographer.
