we are doing 8 hours, were going to do 6, but got offered an awesome deal so are doing 8 because we love them and can now afford the difference.

Speaking from a photographers standpoint it varies. I shoot about 10 weddings/year and I have my own process. When prepairing for a wedding I always attend rehearsal and have a pre-wedding meeting with the bride groom (except with two destination weddings where the meeting was on the phone). I have never charged for this but it is an additional 3 hours of prep work that I feel is necessary so I can map out the shoot ahead of time. The day of the wedding I am usually asked for 6-8hours and this can be perfectly exceptable however, I feel that if I am hired to be part of someones day I need to be there for the day wake up to about an hour after formalities are finished at the reception. Usually this is 9 hours minimum.
Being a photographer is a business so our time has a value but satified customers and superior work also have a value so make sure the focus of your conversation with your photographer is the final product not the stop watch. I charge the same price for my process as I would for the 6-8 hours time slot.

I am redeveloping my web page so facebook is a better place to find samples.
