Frustrated with the process

Hi fellow brides,

I am getting married in October and the process for finding a photographer has been a nightmare. I've had some that never even respond and some that are really impersonal, among other frustrations.

I'm not looking for recommendations, I just need to know I'm not the only one who is having trouble. What was your biggest frustration in finding a photographer? What are you looking for that you can't find? Is personality or price more important? I want to find someone I really click with and I don't think that is too much to ask. Please tell me your story!

Re: Frustrated with the process

  • What was your biggest frustration in finding a photographer?
Probably narrowing them down.  We have so many great photographers in Dallas.

What are you looking for that you can't find?
Someone that I loved who was both available on my date and in my budget.

Is personality or price more important? I want to find someone I really click with and I don't think that is too much to ask.
I would say both.  You will spend alot of time with your photographer and it's important to have someone you like being around.  When I found my photographer, I knew she was it.

Is your local board active?  That was where I got alot of my recommendations.  It was a long process for me so don't get discouraged.  The perfect one is out there!
  • Photographs. Personality. Price : In that order.
  • What was your biggest frustration in finding a photographer?
Cost - the photographers that were within the price range I originally set were not up to FI's standards (he's an amateur photographer and very particular), and the ones that he loved were crazy expensive.  We ended up going with one of the crazy-expensive ones and cut the budget back in other areas.

What are you looking for that you can't find?
See above - a photographer that FI loved that didn't break the bank.  I guess we could've looked longer to find it, but he fell in love with the work of a particular company, and it was easier to just move money around than it was to keep looking, knowing he was already "sold" on the expensive company.

Is personality or price more important?
Neither.  The quality of the work was what we cared about most.  Certainly, if someone was downright unpleasant, they were off the list, but everyone we met with was actually extremely professional, so it really just came down to who took the best photos for us.

</div><div>We hired someone from Texas and flew him in due to our standards and cut back big time in other areas for the wedding. So, we essentially did the same things since we did not meet the photographer until the day prior. Most the time it just comes down to what you feel is right. A lot of times photographers are afraid to admit when something is not a good fit and that is when things do not work out for both parties.

<div>Someone you click with?  Make up your mind, do you want a friend or a skilled photographer?  If it's the latter, than forget about clicking with them and let them do their job.  Photographers aren't their to be your best girlfriend, they're their to ensure that your day is professionally documented.  </div>
