quality vs quantity

we are on a budget and we've narrowed it down to 2 photographers. we've met with both of them and liked them. they are both the same price.

photographer A's style is really impressive and artistic. we really like the photos and feel that we'll get some amazing shots. they were recommended by one of the venues we looked at. for the price they will do 4 hours. so we won't get the whole day captured. we will get ceremony, group photos, and beginning of reception.

photographer B's style is alright. they definitely are a competent photographer and will do a good job but the photos are not as artistic and we weren't that impressed with them. two friends i have recommended this photographer and were happy with the results so i know they are reliable. for the price they will do 8 hours. so we will get the whole day including getting ready and post dinner.

which would you choose?

The most important vendor after finding the ceremony location and reception location for me was the photographer.  I'm in love with photographs to begin with but that aside, it's what you will look back at most when reminiscing on your wedding day.  I wouldn't compromise for a mediocre photographer, even if you'll get more shoots taken...they very well may be photos that you overlook because you're just frustrated with their quality.

I'd make those little photo sharing cards.  Many guests will have digital cameras at your wedding and reception and they can upload what they have for you to see.  Maybe you'll get some great photos of those things missed after the first photographer leaves.

Definitely don't settle on your photographer. Although quality is very important, you should make sure that the important moments will be captured. I don't think 4 hours is enough time, but 8 hours w/a photographer you're not completely doesn't make that a better choice either.

I'm guessing you still have some time before your wedding, so maybe keep looking.

I'm kind of on the fence about it. I don't think 4 hours would be enough time, but depending on what all you have planned, 8 hours may be too much. If photographer B isn't as artistic as you want, but you still want lots of coverage on your wedding day, then I would keep looking. If you truely love photographer A's style and don't think it could get better, then go for it and make a list of the pictures that you absolutely have to have taken in those four hours to make sure you get those atleast.

Personally, I want lots of good quality photos. Not every picture has to be completely artistic and creative, but I would definitely expect a lot of them to be, especially when it comes to the details of the wedding that you want to remember.

see if you can get one more hour added on to your package with the quality guy.  Explain your dilemma and indicate that you are having to contemplate someone else.  Tell them how much better you like their style.  Flattery can get you places, and see if you could get a special rate for that extra hour without going up to the next big package.
