Too Late for an Engagement Party?

FI and I got engaged in July.  Now I know traditionally it's way too late to have an engagment party now (I think you're supposed to do them with in 3 months of getting engaged?), but my mother really wants to throw one.  She was just starting planning it when she was in a really terrible accident and ended up in the hospital for a month.  She's home now and doing well, but still has some healing to do.

However, she is still talking about really wanting to throw an engagment party for us.  Has it been too long and I should just decline her offer or should I let her go ahead with it?  I know she's really excited about the idea.

Wow, I feel bad! I got engaged on July 4th of this year and we had so much to do with Disney Wrold vacation for my son's birthday and back to school expenses we decided to just wait until next July to have our engagement party when it will be warm out again since we are not getting married until October 2012.

If it would make your mom happy, then go for it! Pretty much every "rule" related to weddings gets broken all the time nowadays. Plus there's a reason for the delay so at least you have a simple answer if people ask you about it.
