Pre-wedding Parties

How many people did you invite/are you inviting to your engagement party?

My parents are throwing us an engagement party and asked me to put together a guest list and I included only close family (aunts, uncles, cousin, grandparents) and wedding party + their dates and it is a HUGE guest list. It seems really excessive. We will have 200 at our wedding and have 80 people on the guest list for our engagement party. I'm not really sure what to do or where to make cuts.

Thanks.

We had about 50 people at my parents house and that excluded a majority of close friends I would have invited since they are all OOT. (I.e. BP, etc.)  A few of the parties I've attended have had about  60-80 people based on the list you provided in your post.

Your list doesn't sound excessive, however I'm not sure where you can make cuts.

As your parents about where to make cuts.

We invited 220 to the wedding but MIL told us that the e-party guest list had to be about 40 people.  We trimmed it to parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, wedding party and close friends.

Our engagement party will be 45 people. It's the wedding party, family, and close friends. Good luck with your list and enjoy the party!

[QUOTE]Every person who is invited to the e-party must be invited to the wedding, but every person who is invited to the wedding does not have to be invited to the e-party, shower or bachelorette. Trust me...they don't expect it, either.

Ditto this! We had about 35 people at our engagement party. Aside from our immediate family we invited our grandparents, aunts & uncles, close cousins, and our close friends we were asking to be in our WP.

We're inviting 130 to the wedding and invited 60 to the engagement party. We made our cuts for the party with our friends and out of town relatives.

Our wedding consists of 200 invites and our engagement is about 30 people.
