Changing Name, Have Questions

I know this has come up a few times but I have some specific questions.

We are coming up on an deadline at work so I haven't been able to go to the SS office in the morning. Has anyone ever been around 2pm on a Friday? And how many days/weeks/etc. did it take for your name to be officially changed on your driver's license?

I was a little ambitious and booked a flight in early November using my new last name lol

I got all my stuff back in the mail within 2 weeks.
The lines at the SS office aren't so bad once you get through the initial line, because most people are there dealing with their SS checks, not name changes.
I went when they opened at 9, and was out in 20 minutes.

At the office at 75 and Royal, there is a section of the building specifically for name changes.  I think I went in the early afternoon and was pretty much in and out in 20 minutes or so.

The earlier you try to get in and do it the better in terms of date. I tried to fly with the paper copy (they make you give up your old DL) because my new DL hadn't come in. I had my birth certificate, marriage license, etc. and I had the most difficult time at security both ways. My hubby was not happy with me.

Thanks guys!

I'm going to try the location off 75 this Friday. If I get everything in 10 days that will be perfect! If not I'll still have a little buffer. I just don't want any problems at the airport.

This is the office I went to, and once I got filtered to the other section of the building I waited MAYBE 5 minutes.

Ash, are you going to apply for a new voter's registration card, too? I have no idea how long that process takes so I wasn't sure what to do in that regard...

I did that at the DMV and got it in the mail before my license or SS card... like 1 week later. I'm not sure when the cutoff is for registering, though.

I think the cutoff to vote in the Nov. 6 election has passed.  If it hasn't it's coming up quickly.

Hmm...I wonder if it's different if you're already registered though and just have a name change? My CW said that they gave her the forms with her marriage license so she's going to bring me a copy tomorrow. I'll le you know if I find anything out.

Erica let me know what you find out. I completely forgot about voter registration. H better know how much I love him cause this is a pain

I kept telling H this, and he was like, you don't HAVE to change your name. I don't care one way or another.
